MAHWAH, NJ – After playing five straight at home, the Maritime College baseball team began a string where it plays six out of eight away from Reinhart Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon with a visit to Ramapo. The Privateers (20-11) were unable to earn the victory, however, as the Roadrunners (22-12) notched a 6-1 win at Jeff Maund Field.
Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Maritime tied it in the second.
Michael Frazzetta (Howard Beach, NY) led off the inning with a double to right, then moved to third on a wild pitch. He later came in to score on another wild pitch, evening the game at 1-1. The Roadrunners responded with a five-spot in the bottom of the second, though, to build a 6-1 cushion.
In the top of the fifth, Maritime put a runner on third when
Jaden Shea (Severn, MD) singled, stole second and moved up on a wild pitch. He was left stranded there, however, and the Privateers would be held to just three baserunners over the final four innings of the 6-1 loss.
Alex Bardi (Wantagh, NY) had two doubles and added a single, while Shea singled twice. Frazzetta's second-inning double was the only other Maritime hit in the contest. On the mound,
Evan Block (Seaford, NY) (0-2) got the start and took the loss. He surrendered six runs on five hits, struck out two and walked two in 1.1 innings.
Colin McKeon (Mullica Hill, NJ) followed with 3.2 shutout innings, allowing six hits and notching two strikeouts.
Sean Mylan (Lynbrook, NY) gave up just one hit and two walks while also recording a strikeout over the final three innings.
For the Roadrunners, Zack Bailey was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Jack Tallent went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Sean Donaghue, meanwhile, finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Starting pitcher James Garthaffner lasted six innings, yielding one run on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Jake Depetris (1-0) was credited with the win after pitching a scoreless seventh. Will Kennedy and Ryan Lasko each tossed a scoreless inning, as well, for Rampao.
On Wednesday, Maritime concludes its non-conference slate by making the short trip to Lehman (0-21) for a 4 p.m. contest. The game was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader on March 2, but was postponed due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.
