Privateers Win OT Thriller at Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team won at Farmingdale for the first time in program history on Tuesday.  And the Privateers did it in dramatic fashion.  After the Rams (4-8, 1-2 Skyline) tied the game late in the fourth quarter, Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) scored 4:12 into overtime to give Maritime (6-2, 3-0 Skyline) a 15-14 victory at Rams Field.

Farmingdale had a 13-12 lead before Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) and Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ) found the back of the net 13 seconds apart to put the Privateers in front, 14-13, with 4:08 remaining in the fourth quarter.  The Rams' Carly Livingston leveled the score 30 seconds later, however.

Maritime had one last chance to win it in regulation after earning a free position attempt with seven seconds left, but Farmingdale forced a turnover and the contest went into overtime.  After each team had a shot saved early in the extra session, Tori Gay (Whiteford, MD) caused a turnover at the 1:50 mark.  She picked up the ground ball and fed Nicolosi, who put home the game-winner.  It was Nicolosi's fourth goal and Gay's fifth assist of the day, as the Privateers clinched their first victory in nine all-time trips to Farmingdale.

Tracy led the Privateers with six goals, and she added three ground balls.  Nicolosi distributed two assists to go along with her four goals, while Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) finished with three goals, two assists and nine draw controls.  Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) had eight draw controls, and Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) and Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) recorded four draw controls apiece.  Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (6-2) made 10 saves in net.

After Farmingdale jumped out to a 3-0 advantage, Maritime rattled off four straight goals to take its first lead, 4-3.  Livingston tied it for the Rams before tallies by Tracy and Nicolosi put the Privateers in front, 6-4, at the end of the first quarter.  Farmingdale then outscored Maritime 3-1 in the second quarter to make it a 7-7 game at halftime.

A Tracy tally early in the fourth quarter forced a 10-10 deadlock, but the Rams countered with goals from Olivia Cassese and Ashley Codispoti to go up 12-10.  The Privateers responded, however, as Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-On-Hudson, NY) and Nicolosi each found the back of the net to tie the game and start a 4-1 run that gave Maritime a one-goal lead, 14-13, before Livingston forced the ninth tie of the contest.

Livingston notched five goals and an assist for Farmingdale, while Codispoti scored five times and controlled four draws.  Cassese also notched a hat trick for the Rams.  In addition to posting 11 saves, Farmingdale goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (2-5) picked up a game-high four ground balls.

On Saturday, Maritime visits Merchant Marine (6-2, 3-0 Skyline) at 12 p.m. in a battle for first place.  It will be the first meeting between the teams since last season's Skyline Championship Game, when the Mariners defeated the Privateers 18-11.
