BOCA RATON, FL – On Wednesday afternoon, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team began a three-game road trip with its first-ever visit to Lynn. The Privateers (4-4) held a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, but ultimately fell to the Fighting Knights (3-4) by an 11-4 count at Bobby Campbell Stadium.
After Lynn's Scott Friant scored the first goal of the game,
Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) found the back of the net twice in a 21-second span to put Maritime in front. Connor Houston tied it for the Fighting Knights with a man-up tally early in the second quarter, but
Charles Gerace (Miller Place, NY) immediately responded for the Privateers. Lynn ended the first half with three straight goals, though, to take a 5-3 advantage into the halftime break.
The Fighting Knights then outscored Maritime 5-0 in the third quarter to extend their cushion to 10-3. Lynn added another goal in the fourth quarter before Gerace snapped the Privateers' scoring drought with 57 seconds remaining in the contest.
Reilly and Gerace both scored twice, while
Ryan Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) and
Thomas Pellicci (Manorville, NY) were each credited with an assist. Pellicci also had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) paced the Privateers with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. In addition to picking up five ground balls,
Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) (4-4) made 17 saves in a losing effort.
Lynn outshot Maritime 54-24 in the game, and four different Fighting Knights notched two goals apiece. Joe Michalski notched three points on two goals and an assist, while Friant had a goal and two assists. Camren Santos went 7-for-9 on faceoffs and gathered six ground balls. Matthew Canedo, meanwhile, finished with six ground balls and five caused turnovers. Tristan Lenard (3-4) played the first 52 minutes in goal and recorded 10 saves.
Maritime (0-0 Skyline) is now off until March 30, when it begins Skyline Conference play with a 12 p.m. matchup at Merchant Marine (3-2, 0-0 Skyline). It will be the first meeting between the teams since the Mariners snapped the Privateers' 33-game winning streak against conference opponents in last season's Skyline Championship Game.
