NEWBURGH, NY – The Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams squared off with three Skyline Conference foes on Saturday, taking part in a meet hosted by Mount St. Mary that also included Merchant Marine and Sarah Lawrence. The Privateer men went 2-1, defeating Mount St. Mary and Sarah Lawrence while falling to Merchant Marine. Maritime's women, meanwhile, lost to all three opponents at the Kaplan Center Pool.
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) and
Ryan Colombo (Cortland Manor, NY) were the top performers on the men's side. Hayes took second overall in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:00.29), while Colombo placed third in the 500 yard freestyle (6:11.18).
Victor Pineda (Bronx, NY) ended up fourth in the 100 yard freestyle (57.98), and
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) secured fourth place in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:00.76).
Parker Endress (Hamburg, NY) added a fourth-place showing in the 200 yard individual medley (2:28.10).
Maritime went 2-1 in the head-to-head matchups. The Privateers edged Mount St. Mary by a score of 92-71 and topped Sarah Lawrence, 117-26. Merchant Marine was the only opponent to beat Maritime, earning a 158-33 victory.
Oceana Elefante (Sayville, NY) had the best result among the Privateer women with her sixth-place effort in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.39). She also finished seventh in the 100 freestyle (1:05.95).
Kirsten Argueta (Englewood, NJ), meanwhile, placed seventh in the 100 yard backstroke (1:29.43) and eighth in the 200 yard freestyle (2:49.01).
In the head-to-head scoring, Maritime fell to Mount St. Mary by a 108-56 count. The Privateers dropped a 132-31 decision to Sarah Lawrence, and the final score against Merchant Marine was 160-24 in favor of the Mariners.
On Friday, Maritime returns to action with a 7 p.m. tri-meet at St. Joseph's LI. In addition to the Golden Eagles, the Privateers will take on Brooklyn.
