THROGGS NECK, NY – On Friday, the Maritime College women's soccer team concluded its non-conference schedule by welcoming Five Towns to Reinhart Field. The contest was tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Privateers (4-1-0) scored twice in the second half to notch a 3-1 victory over the Sound (0-3-0).
Maritime opened the scoring off a corner kick in the 36
th minute.
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) took the corner and sent it low down the right side to
Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY), who put away her fourth goal of the year. Five Towns tied it just before halftime, though, as Chelsea Martinez's blast from 20 yards out found the back of the net with 26 remaining in the half.
The Privateers peppered Five Towns goalkeeper Jordan Tobin with shots over the first 20 minutes of the second half before
Hannah Crown (Athens, NY) slipped one off her hands and into the net in the 65
th minute. Maritime added an insurance tally in the final minute, when
Erin Hartill's (Sound Beach, NY) long pass into the middle found
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY). Her sixth goal this season wrapped up the scoring in the Privateers' fourth win in five games.
As a team, Maritime outshot Five Towns 38-3. The Privateers also had 18 corner kicks.
Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) (4-1-0) earned the victory in goal for Maritime, while Tobin (0-3-0) made 11 saves in a losing effort for the Sound.
After starting the season by playing four of its first five at home, Maritime hits the road for its next two games. The Privateers (1-0-0 Skyline) resume their Skyline Conference slate with a 7 p.m. visit to Purchase (2-0-3, 1-0-0 Skyline) on Wednesday.
