Privateers Shut Out Yeshiva In Skyline Opener

THROGGS NECK, NY – On Tuesday night, the Maritime College women's soccer team opened its Skyline Conference schedule with a matchup against Yeshiva for the second straight year. And, for the second straight year, the Privateers began conference play by defeating the Maccabees.  Maritime (3-1-0, 1-0-0 Skyline) topped Yeshiva (0-5-0, 0-5-0 Skyline), 5-0, at Reinhart Field for its second consecutive home shutout.

After taking eight corner kicks in the first 16 minutes, the Privateers finally broke through on their ninth.  Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) set up Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY), whose shot was deflected in by a Yeshiva defender for an own goal.  Williams was then credited with a goal in the 38th minute, when she came up the middle, took a long pass from Alexa Heise (Levittown, NY), and found the back of the net.  Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) then made it 3-0 with her fifth goal of the year.

In the 59th minute, Hannah Crown (Athens, NY) put home the rebound after Kathryn Sandford's (Floral Park, NY) shot was saved to make it 4-0.  Morrill then blasted a free kick into the back of the net from 30 yards out in the 89th minute to close out the scoring in the Privateers' 5-0 victory.

Maritime was awarded 23 corner kicks in the contest to set a single-game program record.  The Privateers also outshot the Maccabees 43-0.  Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) and Emily Harpur (Yonkers, NY) each played a half in goal, with Etienne (3-1-0) getting credit for the win.  Yeshiva goalkeeper Maayan Berkowitz (0-5-0), meanwhile, made 10 saves in a losing effort.

The Privateers return to action on Friday, when they host Five Towns (0-2-0) at 4 p.m.  It will be Maritime's final non-conference game of the season, as well as the opener of a doubleheader at Reinhart Field.  Following the women's game, the Maritime and Five Towns men's teams square off at 7 p.m.
