RIVERDALE, NY – After leading 7-4 at halftime, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team (11-5, 6-0 Skyline) scored 10 times in the third quarter and added five more goals in the fourth to post a 22-8 victory over Mount St. Vincent (4-9, 0-5 Skyline) at Marillac Field on Saturday. With the win, Maritime locked up the No. 1 seed in the Skyline Conference Tournament for the fourth consecutive time.
Thomas Kennedy (Orangeburg, NY) opened the scoring at the 12:11 mark of the first quarter, and the Privateers led 4-1 midway through the period. Mount St. Vincent scored twice in 25 seconds to make it 4-3 before
Charles Longo (Bellport, NY) gave Maritime a 5-3 advantage. After
Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) and Longo extended the margin to 7-3 with 7:45 left in the second quarter, Andrew Dzubak got the Dolphins within 7-4 at the break.
Just 28 seconds into the third quarter, Longo found the back of the net to start a 14-0 Maritime rally. Mount St. Vincent snapped the run on Dzubak's man-up tally with 3:22 remaining in the contest, and the Dolphins ended the game by scoring four of the final five goals. The 22-8 win was the Privateers' 10
th straight overall after a 1-5 start and 31
st in a row against conference opponents.
Longo
and Reilly
both had seven goals, one shy of the single-game program record, and they each added two assists.
Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY), meanwhile, reached the 100-point plateau for his career after finishing with eight points on two goals and six assists. This marked the second straight year in which Tomich had six assists against Mount St. Vincent.
The Privateers held a 58-31 advantage in ground balls, with
Thomas Pellicci (Manorville, NY) picking up a game-high nine ground balls.
Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) collected six ground balls, and
Joseph Bruno (East Islip, NY) gathered five ground balls. He also went 10-for-11 on faceoffs.
Ben McGrady (Annapolis, MD) (11-4) made 11 saves before being relieved by
Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY), who stopped a pair of Mount St. Vincent shots.
For the Dolphins, Jacob Cochran led the way with four goals and five ground balls. Dzubak scored three times, while Gio Jean-Pharuns tallied three points on a goal and two assists. Adrian Guillermo corralled five ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers, and Brian Varela added four ground balls. Goalkeeper Sawyer Davis (4-9) secured four ground balls of his own while also posting 19 saves.
Maritime has one game remaining before the Skyline Tournament. The Privateers wrap up the regular season by visiting Mount St. Mary (4-6, 2-2 Skyline) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
