PURCHASE, NY – Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-On-Hudson, NY) tied a Maritime College women's lacrosse program record with eight assists on Tuesday, as the Privateers (9-2, 4-0 Skyline) earned a 19-2 win over Purchase (2-6, 0-3 Skyline) at Purchase College Turf Field. She also had a goal in the game to finish with a career-high nine points.
Maritime scored twice in the first minute and led 9-2 at the end of the first quarter. Jillson Neuwirth then assisted on four of the Privateers' five second-quarter goals, as Maritime extended its advantage to 14-2. The Privateers added five more tallies in the third quarter to go up 19-2. Maritime held Purchase scoreless in the second half, marking the second time this season it notched a second-half shutout.
Jillson Neuwirth's eight assists matched the program record set by
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) against Mount St. Vincent in last season's Skyline Tournament. She also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Nicole Johnson (Farmingville, NY) notched seven points of her own on six goals and an assist to go along with nine draw controls and three ground balls.
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) also scored six times, while
Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ) tallied four goals, two assists, five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) recorded five draw controls and four ground balls, and
Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) caused four turnovers while picking up a team-best five ground balls.
As a team, the Privateers collected 37 ground balls and were credited with 21 caused turnovers. Goalkeeper
Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) (9-2) only faced six shots, stopping three of them.
Michelle Gomez and Brienne Westfall had the Purchase goals. Gomez and Alyssa Kozak both gathered three ground balls, while Kozak added four draw controls. Amani Jamal (0-2) made 23 saves on 46 Maritime shots.
Up next, the Privateers host Merchant Marine (8-1, 4-0 Skyline) in a showdown for first place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. It will be the Mariners' first visit to Reinhart Field since the 2019 season.
