Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Maritime Falls at Farmingdale In Skyline Semifinals

FARMINGDALE, NY – The Maritime College men's basketball team made its first appearance in the Skyline Conference semifinals since 2010 on Thursday night.  The fourth-seeded Privateers (16-11) saw their quest for a conference title come to an end, however, as top-seeded Farmingdale (20-7) advanced to the championship game with a 73-53 victory at Nold Hall.

Farmingdale jumped out to an early 11-3 lead and never looked back.  The Rams built a 20-point cushion, 34-14, before the Privateers ended the first half on an 11-4 run to pull within 38-25 at halftime.  Maritime trimmed its deficit to nine at 44-35 on Theo Noble's (Bronx, NY) jumper early in the second half, but would get no closer.  Farmingdale's advantage reached as many as 26 points, as the Rams notched a 73-53 triumph and moved on to face Manhattanville for the Skyline championship.

Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) was the only Privateer in double figures with 15 points.  James O'Connell (East Williston, NY), meanwhile, tallied eight points off the bench.  Jovan Germain (Brooklyn, NY) grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, and Sean Flynn (Flushing, NY) recorded three blocks.  It was a rough shooting night for Maritime, which went 18-for-59 (30.5 percent) from the field, 5-for-22 (22.7 percent) from long range, and 12-for-23 (52.2 percent) at the charity stripe.

Nick Hurowitz paced the Rams with 12 points, while Tre Riggins finished with 11 points.  Jovayne Walters pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, as Farmingdale held a 49-35 edge on the glass.  Corey Powell and Aaron Davis, meanwhile, each handed out four assists.  As a team, the Rams shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the floor, 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from downtown, and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) at the free throw line.

While Maritime was eliminated from the Skyline Tournament with the loss, the Privateers' season isn't necessarily over.  Maritime may still be selected to participate in the ECAC Tournament.  That field will be announced next week after the NCAA Tournament bracket is released.
