THROGGS NECK, NY – On Tuesday night, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams welcomed William Paterson to the Riesenberg Aquatics Center for a dual meet.
Will Kim (Westbury, NY) and
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) each won two individual events for the Privateer men in a 116-69 loss to the Pioneers. Maritime's women fell to William Paterson by a 123-50 count.
Kim and Hayes began the meet by swimming the first two legs in the 200 yard medley relay. They joined with
Parker Endress (Hamburg, NY) and
Liam McManus (Islip, NY) to win the event in 1:49.13. Kim then took first individually in the 50 yard freestyle (24.44) before adding a second victory in the 100 yard backstroke (59.50). Hayes earned the win in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.24) and led a 1-2 finish in the 100 yard freestyle. His time was 50.96 seconds, with McManus following in 56.46 seconds.
Maritime recorded a pair of victories on the women's side. In the 500 yard freestyle,
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) posted a winning time of 13:25.63.
Jessica Magee (Smithtown, NY), meanwhile, scored 118.25 points in the 1-meter diving competition.
The Privateers' scheduled dual meet at Lehman on Friday was postponed until after the New Year. As a result, Maritime will now return to action on Saturday with a quad meet at Merchant Marine that also includes Sarah Lawrence and Hunter. It will be the team's final event before a month-long holiday break.
