THROGGS NECK, NY – Prior to the Maritime College women's soccer team's final home game of the season on Friday night,
Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) was honored alongside fellow senior
Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY). Sandford then tallied her sixth goal of the season in the 68
th minute. It was not enough for the Privateers (6-7-1, 3-6-1 Skyline), however, as the Panthers (7-10-0, 3-7-0 Skyline) notched a 7-1 victory at Reinhart Field.
Sandford nearly scored in the 64
th minute. She was taken down on a breakaway, though, resulting in a red card on Old Westbury goalkeeper Natalie Intrieri. Four minutes later, the two seniors connected to put Maritime on the board. Lesiewicz chipped one into the box and Sandford headed it home to cut the Panthers' lead to 6-1. Mia Almonte then added another goal for Old Westbury in the 84
th minute.
Alyse Then, who ranks second nationally in scoring, had a hand in each of the Panthers' first six goals. She found the back of the net in the fifth minute before assisting on Mikayla Crosier's seventh-minute tally. Then completed a first-half hat trick, giving Old Westbury a 4-0 lead at halftime. She added two more goals in the second half, her 29
th and 30
th of the season.
Maritime goalkeeper
Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) (6-7-1) played the first 20 minutes before exiting. She was credited with three saves.
Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY) made one save during an emergency goalkeeping appearance to end the first half, while
Nadia Ardovini (West Seneca, NY) recorded three saves in the second half.
Intieri (6-10-0) registered six saves for the Panthers. Evelyn Martel posted two saves after entering and allowed the Maritime goal. The Old Westbury defense also stopped
Erin Hartill's (Sound Beach, NY) shot on the goal line late in the second half.
The Privateers wrap up the 2023 season on Tuesday, when they visit Farmingdale (6-8-2, 5-2-1 Skyline) at 6 p.m.
