Maritime Begins Busy Stretch With Loss

NEW YORK – On Monday, the Maritime College volleyball team started a string of three matches in four nights by visiting Baruch.  The Bearcats (5-6) hit a combined .319 (30 kills, seven errors, 72 attempts) in the contest, as they earned a 25-12, 25-9, 25-9 win over the Privateers (3-9) at ARC Arena.

The first set was tied at 3-3 when Baruch went on a 7-1 spurt to open up a 10-4 advantage.  Maritime got back within 11-7 before the Bearcats used a 13-4 rally to reach set point.  Baruch took the opening set by a 25-12 count.

In the second set, the Bearcats jumped out to a 13-2 lead.  After Baruch extended the margin to 21-6, Maritime got a block from Ashley Pavarini (Ossining, NY) and Kelly Kuhn (Lansdale, PA) before Kuhn and Pavarini each registered a kill.  The Bearcats scored the final four points of the set, however, to claim a 25-9 win.  Baruch hit .500 (14-1-26) in the second set.

Baruch built an early cushion again in the third set, notching seven of the first eight points.  The Bearcats closed out the match with a 25-9 third-set triumph.
