Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ford’s Goal Gives Privateers 1-0 Victory

THROGGS NECK, NY – Kiera Ford's (Montgomery, NY) 29th-minute goal proved to be the difference on Tuesday night, as the Maritime College women's soccer team (6-6-1, 3-5-1 Skyline) earned a 1-0 win over St. Joseph's Brooklyn (3-8-1, 2-7-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.  The victory, Maritime's third 1-0 triumph of the season, snapped the Privateers' six-game winless streak.

After a takeaway at midfield, Annaliese Etienne (Garden City, NY) sent a long pass to Ford, who was streaking down the left side.  St. Joseph's Brooklyn goalkeeper Julia Marin came out of the net, but Ford was able to slip a blast from 30 yards out over her head and in.  It was her team-leading seventh score of the season, while Etienne was credited with her second assist.

The Privateers nearly doubled their lead in the 72nd minute, when Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) and Ford each had a shot blocked.  Ford then had another attempt sail wide in the 79th minute.  The Bears' Katherine Barrios got off a late shot, but it was easily saved and Maritime came away with the 1-0 win.

Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) (6-6-1) made three saves in her fourth shutout of the year.  Marin (2-8-1), meanwhile, recorded three saves for St. Joseph's Brooklyn.

On Friday, Maritime concludes its home schedule with a 5 p.m. matchup against Old Westbury (5-10-0, 1-7-0 Skyline).  The Privateers will honor their three graduating seniors—Erin Hartill (Sound Beach, NY), Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) and Sandford—prior to the game.
