RIVERDALE, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team visited Skyline Conference-leading Mount St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins (9-4-2, 6-0-2 Skyline) scored a pair of early goals en route to a 9-0 victory over the Privateers (5-6-1, 2-5-1 Skyline) at the Athletic Field at Marillac.
An own goal by the Maritime defense got Mount St. Vincent on the board in the fourth minute, and the Dolphins made it 2-0 on Victoria Gamarra's sixth-minute tally. After
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) and
Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) each had an attempt saved, Mount St. Vincent found the back of the net three times in a six-minute span to increase its cushion to 5-0. The Dolphins added a goal late in the half to take a 6-0 lead into the halftime break.
After a shot by
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) was saved early in the second half, Alicia Rodriguez gave Mount St. Vincent a 7-0 advantage in the 56
th minute. The Dolphins scored two more times in the second half to close out a 9-0 victory.
Ford and Morrill both recorded two shots for Maritime, which had seven as a team.
Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) (5-6-1), meanwhile, was credited with seven saves in the loss. Javiera Sanchez (6-0-0) also made seven saves for the Dolphins. Gamarra and Caitlyn Thompson scored two goals apiece for Mount St. Vincent, while Rodriguez distributed two assists to go along with her tally.
This was Maritime's only road contest in a five-game span. The Privateers return to Reinhart Field on Tuesday, when they take on St. Joseph's Brooklyn (3-7-1, 2-6-0 Skyline) at 7:30 p.m.
