Privateers Drop 1-0 Decision to Merchant Marine

THROGGS NECK, NY – On Tuesday, the Maritime College women's soccer team hosted Merchant Marine for the first time in program history.  The Mariners (4-4-1, 4-1-1 Skyline) made a first-half goal hold up, as the defeated the Privateers (5-5-1, 2-4-1 Skyline) by a 1-0 score at Reinhart Field.

Merchant Marine got on the board in the 17th minute, when Marina Ronzoni took a corner kick and sent a low roller into the box.  Alexx Forman was on the receiving end, and she put it into the back of the net to give her team the lead.

Maritime nearly found an equalizer in the 55th minute.  Ava Morrill's (New Windsor, NY) blast looked headed for the top corner, but was cleared away by the Merchant Marine defense.  A few minutes later, Sammy Baumann appeared to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead.  She was called for offside on the play, though, and it remained a one-goal game, which would prove to be the final margin.

Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) (5-5-1) made 11 saves for the second consecutive game and the third time this season.  Morrill had both of Maritime's shots on goal, with Margaret Ripperger (4-4-1) recording one save in the shutout.

The Privateers hit the road for the only time in a five-game stretch on Saturday, when they visit Mount St. Vincent (8-3-2, 5-0-2 Skyline) at 1 p.m.
