FARMINGDALE, NY – After playing three straight at home, the Maritime College men's basketball team hit the road for the first time in 2023 on Tuesday night. The Privateers (8-8, 4-3 Skyline) led 20-10 midway through the first half before Farmingdale (11-5, 6-1 Skyline) pulled away for a 69-57 victory at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center. The loss snapped Maritime's three-game winning streak.
The game was tied at 10-10 when a
Ryan Donovan (North Salem, NY) layup started a 10-0 Maritime run.
Jovan Germain's (Brooklyn, NY) capped the rally and gave the Privateers a 10-point cushion, 20-10, with 9:36 left until halftime. However, Farmingdale ended the half by scoring 26 of the final 29 points to take a 36-23 advantage into the locker room.
Farmingdale got a layup on its first possession of the second half to increase its lead to a game-high 15 points, 38-23, before the Privateers stormed back with a 14-4 run to get back within five, 42-37, with 13:46 left. The Rams pushed the margin back to 15 points at 63-48, but Maritime again rallied, cutting its deficit to eight, 65-57, at the 1:43 mark. However, the Privateers would get no closer, and Farmingdale earned a 69-57 victory.
Donovan
and
Theo Noble (Bronx, NY) paced the Privateers with 13 points apiece. Donovan also pulled down five rebounds.
Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) added 11 points and two blocks, while
Robbie Mitchell (Staten Island, NY) and
Aleksandar Begovic (Kotor, Montenegro) each grabbed five boards. As a team, Maritime shot 31 percent (22-of-71) from the field, 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from long range, and 100 percent (3-of-3) at the line.
For Farmingdale, Nick Hurowitz led the way with 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Macai John tallied 12 points, eight boards and four blocks, while Corey Powell added 12 points and six rebounds. Jevon Santos finished with eight boards and four assists, and Tre Riggins had four blocks for the Rams. Farmingdale recorded 10 total blocks and outrebounded Maritime 50-36. Despite missing all 12 of their three-point attempts, the Rams shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61) from the floor overall. Farmingdale was 17-for-21 (81 percent) at the charity stripe.
On Saturday, the Privateers return to Riesenberg Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. matchup with Old Westbury (1-13, 1-6 Skyline). It will be Maritime's only home contest in a four-game span.
