THROGGS NECK, NY – On Tuesday evening, the Maritime College women's soccer team welcomed SUNY Delhi to a wet Reinhart Field. The Privateers (1-1-0), unfortunately, suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Broncos (1-1-1) by a 3-0 count.
SUNY Delhi got on the board just 35 seconds into the game, when Kelsey Innes streaked up the right side and snuck one past Maritime goalkeeper
Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY). Innes scored again in the 30
th minute before completing the hat trick five minutes into the second half.
Maritime's best scoring chance came in the 89
th minute.
Anya Josberger's (Coxsackie, NY) point-blank attempt was turned aside by SUNY Delhi goalkeeper Andraya Hunt, who knocked the ball out of play for corner kick. The Privateers earned another corner kick, but were unable to score, and the Broncos held on for the 3-0 victory.
Pomaro (0-1-0) was credited with six saves in the loss, as SUNY Delhi outshot Maritime 15-3. Hunt (1-1-1) made one save for the Broncos in the shutout.
The Privateers hit the road for the first time this season on Friday. Maritime takes on Pratt (1-0-0) at 7 p.m. from Randall's Island, Field 10.
