NEW YORK – The Maritime College women's soccer team played its first road game of the season on Friday night. The Privateers (1-2-0) made the short trip to Randall's Island, Field 10, where they fell to Pratt (1-0-0) by a 3-0 score.
After a foul in the box by
Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY), Pratt was awarded a penalty kick in the eighth minute. Katherine Thomsen stepped up to the spot and put it home to give the Cannoneers a 1-0 lead. Maritime had a chance to tie it in the 29
th minute, but
Ava Morrill's (New Windsor, NY) attempt was stopped by Pratt goalkeeper Emma Gaspari. The Cannoneers then extended their lead to 2-0 when Thomsen scored off a pass from Ava Hunwick in the 30
th minute.
Pratt earned another penalty kick in the 69
th minute, but this time
Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) made the save. The Cannoneers would eventually add a third goal in the 82
nd minute, as Thomsen completed her hat trick.
Pomaro (0-2-0) ended up with three saves in the losing effort, while Pratt's Gaspari (1-0-0) was also credited with three saves. Thomsen scored all three of the Cannoneers' goals in the contest.
Up next for Maritime is the Skyline Conference opener against Yeshiva. The Privateers (0-0-0 Skyline) and Maccabees (0-4-0, 0-3-0 Skyline) will square off at 8 p.m. on Tuesday from the Purchase College Soccer Field.
