THROGGS NECK, NY – On Wednesday night, the Maritime College women's soccer team concluded its four-game homestand against St. Joseph's LI. In a matchup of two teams that had yet to lose a Skyline Conference game, the Golden Eagles (4-1-2, 4-0-0 Skyline) came away with a 7-1 victory over the Privateers (3-4-0, 2-1-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
St. Joseph's LI scored a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes, then added another in the 43
rd minute to take 3-0 lead into halftime. After the Golden Eagles' Brooke Esposito found the back of the net in the 56
th minute,
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) put Maritime on the board. She fired a blast from 40 yards out that hit the post and bounced right back to her. Ford knocked in the rebound for her team-leading sixth tally of the season.
However, the Golden Eagles responded less than two minutes later before increasing their advantage to 6-1 in the 66
th minute. St. Joseph's LI picked up a late goal to close out the scoring.
Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ) (1-1-0) faced 30 St. Joseph's LI shots and was credited with 14 saves. Mikayla Ritter (2-0-2) played the first 66 minutes in goal for the Golden Eagles, while Madelyn Hunter made one save over the final 25 minutes.
Abbey Curcio had two goals and two assists for St. Joseph's LI, and Carli LoNigro recorded two goals and an assist. Esposito, meanwhile, distributed three assists to go along with her goal.
Up next for Maritime is a 4 p.m. contest at Mount St. Mary (2-7-2, 2-1-1 Skyline) on Saturday.
