THROGGS NECK, NY – On Tuesday evening, the Maritime College women's lacrosse team hosted a Skyline Conference Tournament game for the first time in program history. The third-seeded Privateers (12-2) welcomed sixth-seeded Mount St. Vincent (4-7) to Reinhart Field in the first round and advanced to the semifinals with a 22-8 victory.
Maritime got on the board less than a minute into the game and led 8-1 after the first quarter. The Privateers extended their advantage to 12-4 before the Dolphins scored twice in the final minute of the first half to pull within 12-6.
Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) notched a pair of tallies early in the third quarter to make it a 14-6 game, and Maritime held a 17-7 edge entering the final period. The final margin was 22-8, as the Privateers recorded their first-ever Skyline Tournament win. With the victory, Maritime moved on to the semifinals for the first time since 2019.
Sara Wright (East Islip, NY) paced the Privateers with eight goals, the second-highest single-game total in program history. She also controlled seven draws.
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) tallied 10 points on two goals and eight assists, while Lesiewicz and
Tori Gay (Whiteford, MD) each contributed four goals, four ground balls and five draw controls.
Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) finished with a hat trick of her own to go along with two assists.
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (2-2) made five saves in the victory.
For the Dolphins, Colleen MacNeil led the way with three goals and an assist. She added four draw controls. Alicia Rodriguez also had a hat trick, and she recorded a team-high six draw controls. Ashley Teal controlled five draws, while Alyssa LaTorre paced Mount St. Vincent with three ground balls. Goalkeeper Katherine Hungerford (2-5) tallied nine saves.
The Privateers will visit second-seeded Farmingdale (8-7, 6-1 Skyline) in the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Thursday. When the squads met on April 13, the Rams posted a 13-12 overtime victory.
