PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College men's basketball team was held to a season-low 48 points on Wednesday night at Manhattanville. The Privateers (3-6, 0-2 Skyline) shot just 27 percent (17-of-63) from the field and 19.2 percent (5-of-26) from three-point range in a 59-48 loss to the Valiants (7-3, 1-1 Skyline) at Kennedy Gym.
Ryan Donovan (New Salem, NY) led Maritime with 16 points.
Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) contributed seven points and three steals, while
Sean Flynn (Flushing, NY) pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.
Theo Noble (Bronx, NY) added six boards for the Privateers, who were 9-for-15 (60 percent) at the free throw line.
Tommy Lotito had 20 points and nine rebounds for Manhattanville. Andrew Saint-Louis posted 12 points off the bench, and Jake Dunn grabbed seven boards. Jackson Leech, meanwhile, tallied six rebounds and three assists. The Valiants shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the floor, 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from downtown, and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) at the charity stripe.
Manhattanville scored the first seven points of the game, but Maritime responded with an 8-3 rally to pull within two, 10-8, at the 11:21 mark of the first half. The Valiants countered with an 11-2 run of their own, though, to push the margin back to 11 points, 21-10. Manhattanville held a 28-23 advantage at halftime.
After Donovan hit a jumper to open the second half, Manhattanville rattled off 10 of the next 14 points to make it a nine-point game, 38-29, with 15:14 left. The Valiants' cushion reached a game-high 14 points at 48-34 with 8:20 remaining, but the Privateers again battled back, scoring seven straight points to cut their deficit to 48-41. Maritime would get no closer, though, as Manhattanville won by a score of 59-48.
On Saturday, the Privateers wrap up a stretch of three straight conference games by welcoming Merchant Marine (3-3, 1-0 Skyline) heads to Riesenberg Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. matchup. It will be Maritime's final home contest of the 2022 calendar year.
