Poor Shooting Plagues Privateers at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College men's basketball team was held to a season-low 48 points on Wednesday night at Manhattanville.  The Privateers (3-6, 0-2 Skyline) shot just 27 percent (17-of-63) from the field and 19.2 percent (5-of-26) from three-point range in a 59-48 loss to the Valiants (7-3, 1-1 Skyline) at Kennedy Gym.

Ryan Donovan (New Salem, NY) led Maritime with 16 points.  Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) contributed seven points and three steals, while Sean Flynn (Flushing, NY) pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.  Theo Noble (Bronx, NY) added six boards for the Privateers, who were 9-for-15 (60 percent) at the free throw line.

Tommy Lotito had 20 points and nine rebounds for Manhattanville.  Andrew Saint-Louis posted 12 points off the bench, and Jake Dunn grabbed seven boards.  Jackson Leech, meanwhile, tallied six rebounds and three assists.  The Valiants shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the floor, 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from downtown, and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) at the charity stripe.

Manhattanville scored the first seven points of the game, but Maritime responded with an 8-3 rally to pull within two, 10-8, at the 11:21 mark of the first half.  The Valiants countered with an 11-2 run of their own, though, to push the margin back to 11 points, 21-10.  Manhattanville held a 28-23 advantage at halftime.

After Donovan hit a jumper to open the second half, Manhattanville rattled off 10 of the next 14 points to make it a nine-point game, 38-29, with 15:14 left.  The Valiants' cushion reached a game-high 14 points at 48-34 with 8:20 remaining, but the Privateers again battled back, scoring seven straight points to cut their deficit to 48-41.  Maritime would get no closer, though, as Manhattanville won by a score of 59-48.

On Saturday, the Privateers wrap up a stretch of three straight conference games by welcoming Merchant Marine (3-3, 1-0 Skyline) heads to Riesenberg Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. matchup.  It will be Maritime's final home contest of the 2022 calendar year.
