BRONXVILLE, NY – The Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded a busy span of four meets in five days at Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The Privateer men defeated the host Gryphons 141-16 and fell to Merchant Marine by a score of 162-39, while the Maritime women lost to Sarah Lawrence, Merchant Marine and Hunter at the Campbell Sports Center Pool.
Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY) had a pair of third-place finishes to pace the men's team. He swam the 50 yard freestyle in 24.66 seconds and posted a time of 57.33 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle. Reilly also teamed with
Alex Baros (Phoenix, AZ),
Griffin Goldleaf (New Paltz, NY) and
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL) to take third in the 200 yard medley relay (1:56.04).
Individually, Baros placed third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.64) and fourth in the 200 yard freestyle (2:12.64).
Chris Corrigan (Mineola, NY) was third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:20.95), while Roe captured fourth place in both the 100 yard breaststroke (1:14.58) and 200 yard individual medley (2:14.09).
Malachi Melli (Bridgewater, NJ) added fourth-place showings in the 500 yard freestyle (5:54.34) and 1000 yard freestyle (12:22.62).
In the dual meet standings, Maritime earned an easy 141-16 win over Sarah Lawrence. Merchant Marine, meanwhile, topped the Privateers by a 162-39 count.
Maritime sent a small contingent of women's swimmers to the meet.
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) was the Privateers' top performer. She finished fifth in the 1000 freestyle (13:50.31) and sixth in the 500 freestyle (6:49.16). Maritime suffered a 96-21 loss to Sarah Lawrence, was topped by Hunter, 152-15, and dropped a 174-6 decision to Merchant Marine.
There will now be a one-month break for finals and the holidays before Maritime's next competition. The Privateers will travel to Western Connecticut for a dual meet on Jan. 11.
