BROOKLYN, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team squared off with St. Joseph's Brooklyn at Aviator Field on Saturday night. The Bears (5-9-1, 3-7-0 Skyline) got a hat trick from Mia Castaneda, the Skyline Conference's leading scorer, en route to a 6-1 victory over the Privateers (3-11-0, 2-8-0 Skyline).
Castaneda found the back of the net just 1:51 into the contest, then scored for a second time in the 21
st minute. In the 23
rd minute, Maritime cut its deficit in half when
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) took a corner kick and connected with
Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY), who put it away for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
St. Joseph's Brooklyn made it 3-1 on Ashley Pintado's 35
th minute tally, then Castaneda completed her hat trick in the 58
th minute. It was her 19
th goal of the season. The Bears added two late scores to close out the 6-1 victory.
Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ) (1-7-0) made three saves in a losing effort, while the Bears' Alexis Breen (1-0-1) was also credited with three saves. Castaneda had a hand in five of the six St. Joseph's Brooklyn goals, as she also recorded two assists. Katherine Barrios, meanwhile, finished with a goal and two assists for the Bears.
Maritime has one game remaining on its 2022 schedule. The Privateers conclude the season by visiting Old Westbury (5-9-1, 2-7-1 Skyline) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
