Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Merchant Marine Gets Past Maritime, 4-2

KINGS POINT, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team took on Merchant Marine for the first time in program history on Saturday afternoon.  The Privateers (3-9-0, 2-6-0 Skyline) led 2-1 at halftime, but the Mariners (7-5-1, 2-5-1 Skyline) scored three times in the second half to earn a 4-2 victory at Tomb Field.

After Cassidy Jester gave Merchant Marine an early lead, Maritime responded in the 15th minute.  Anya Josberger (Coxsackie, NY) took a corner kick and found Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY), who headed it in to tie the game.  The Privateers scored again just 1:23 later, when Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) connected with Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY).  Her first goal of the year put Maritime in front 2-1.

Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ) made four saves early in the second half to help preserve the lead, but the Mariners got one past her in the 63rd minute to tie the game.  Jinae Teria scored on a deflection in the 75th minute to give Merchant Marine the lead, then Marina Ronzoni found the back of the net three minutes later to make it a 4-2 game.

Morrill's goal was her second of the season and first since the opening game against Alverno.  Ford now has a team-leading four assists on the year, while Josberger's assist was her third.  Commodore (1-5-0) was credited with 12 saves.

Teria and Natalie Colpoys each had a goal and an assist for the Mariners.  Merchant Marine goalkeeper Margaret Ripperger (7-5-1) made a pair of saves.

On Tuesday, Maritime concludes its home schedule against Mount St. Vincent (9-3-0, 7-1-0 Skyline).  The Privateers will honor their graduating seniors—Commodore, Josberger, Courtney Curley (Rochester, NY), Erin Hartill (Sound Beach, NY) and Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY)—prior to the 7 p.m. game.
