BRONX, NY – On Tuesday night, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams each closed out 2021 with a dominant victory over Lehman at the APEX Swimming Pool. The Privateers finished first in every event, notching a 176-23 win on the men's side and a 117-56 triumph in the women's meet.
Sage Trautz (Lansdale, PA) had three wins for the men's team. Individually, he was first in the 100 yard freestyle (53.65) and 200 yard individual medley (2:16.51), and he also swam on the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL) earned first-place finishes in both relays while also picking up an individual victory in the 100 yard butterfly (57.92).
Michael Morton (St. John's, FL), meanwhile, recorded two individual wins. He was victorious in both the 200 yard freestyle (1:58.75) and 500 yard freestyle (5:33.79). In addition to placing first in the 200 yard medley relay,
Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY) and
Edwin Moriarty (Long Beach, NY) each won an individual event. Reilly swam the 50 yard freestyle in 24.29 seconds, while Moriarty's time in the 100 yard backstroke was 1:03.59.
Gabriel Menz (Vineland, NJ) took first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.43) and added another victory in the freestyle relay. Other individual winners for the Maritime men were
Patrick Rau (Great Neck, NY) in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:08.97) and
Uri Shakked (San Diego, CA) in 1-meter diving (81.38), while
Maxton Foley (Smyrna, GA) was on the victorious medley relay squad and
Brenner Hinds (Bay Head, NJ) completed the Privateers' winning team in the freestyle relay.
Leading the way for the women's team were
Zoe Marchetti (Key Largo, FL) and
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA), who had two individual wins apiece. Marchetti placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:05.45) and 200 individual medley (2:34.02) while also leading off the medley relay. Cirelli, meanwhile, earned individual wins in the 100 butterfly (1:08.67) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.97) to go along with a victory in the freestyle relay.
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) swam on both relay squads and added an individual triumph in the 500 freestyle (6:49.33). The other two members of the medley relay—
Samantha Hart (Brooklyn, NY) and
Kate Kolsch (Smithtown, NY) each earned an individual win, as well. Hart took first in the 200 freestyle (2:48.08) and Kolsch was victorious in the 50 freestyle (33.39).
Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY), meanwhile, won the 100 freestyle (1:01.32) and, along with
Marilyn Peterson (Whitney Point, NY), competed in the freestyle relay. In 1-meter diving,
Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) finished first with 74.10 points.
The Privateers will now have five weeks off before their final regular season meet. Merchant Marine and Mount St. Vincent visit the Riesenberg Aquatic Center at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13.
