THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) helped to spread some holiday spirit by creating handmade cards for hospitalized children. SAAC members got together with other Maritime students in the Riesenberg Hall Classroom on Dec. 8 to make the cards, which will be sent to kids who have to spend the holidays in a hospital or Ronald McDonald House instead of at home.
"After having a few meetings and discussing what type of service project we wanted to do, we all agreed that sending cards was a good way to spread holiday cheer," SAAC President
Katherine Buser (Women's Lacrosse/Soccer) said. "It was cool that students who aren't a part of the SAAC heard about it and asked to get involved, too."
This event was organized to benefit Cards for Hospitalized Kids, a Chicago-based charitable organization that was founded in 2016. Last year, Cards for Hospitalized Kids distributed holiday cards to children in hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses in all 50 states and Washington, DC.
