PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed for the first time since Feb. 23, 2020 on Tuesday. The Privateer men posted a 100-42 victory over Purchase at the Purchase College Athletic Center, while the women's squad split a tri-meet with Purchase and St. Joseph's (LI). Maritime defeated the Panthers by a score of 81-69 and fell to the Eagles by a 95-62 count.
Maritime won all 13 events in the men's meet.
Sage Trautz (Lansdale, PA), earned individual victories in the 50 yard freestyle (23.83) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.22) while also swimming a leg on the Privateers' 200 yard freestyle relay squad.
Brenner Hinds (Bay Head, NJ) added three first-place finishes of his own. He was the winner in the 100 yard freestyle (55.40) and 200 yard individual medley (2:12.84), and he anchored the 200 yard medley relay team.
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL), who also swam a leg in the 200 medley relay, recorded a pair of individual wins in the 100 yard butterfly (57.09) and 500 yard freestyle (5:27.36).
Michael Grimerstein (Pittsburgh, PA) and
Gabriel Menz (Vineland, NJ) were the other members of the 200 medley relay squad. The Privateers' victorious team in the 200 freestyle relay consisted of
Edwin Moriarty (Long Beach, NY),
Michael Morton (St. John's, FL) and
Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY).
Morton and Moriarty each had an individual win, as well. Morton was first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.57), while Moriarty placed first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.06). In addition,
Patrick Rau (Great Neck, NY) posted a dominant victory in the 1000 yard freestyle. He won the event by nearly three minutes in a time of 11:58.81.
On the women's side, the Privateers began the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of
Zoe Marchetti (Key Largo, FL),
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY),
Hannah Mesones (Spring Valley, NY) and
Samantha Hart (Brooklyn, NY) recorded a 2:12.88 clocking. Marchetti and Barriteau both added an individual victory. Marchetti took first in the 100 backstroke (1:05.13), while Barriteu won the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.64.
Overall, the Maritime women posted five event wins.
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) was first in the 200 individual medley (2:30.30), and
Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY) recorded a winning time of 1:01.46 in the 100 freestyle.
Up next for the Privateer men is a dual meet at William Paterson on Saturday. The women's team, meanwhile, will face both John Jay and host William Paterson.
