BRONXVILLE, NY – The Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to action on Thursday night for a tri-meet with Sarah Lawrence and Bard at Sarah Lawrence's Campbell Sports Center Pool. The Privateer earned a convincing 148-23 win over Bard, while also topping the host Gryphons 100-72 to improve to 4-0 on the season. On the women's side, Maritime fell to both opponents, dropping a 103-52 decision to Sarah Lawrence and falling to Bard by a 105-52 count.
Maritime won three events in the men's meet.
Brenner Hinds (Bay Head, NJ) finished first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.15) to go along with a second-place showing in the 100 yard butterfly (59.15). He also anchored the Privateers' victorious 200 yard freestyle relay squad.
Michael Morton (St. John's, FL), who swam the third leg on that relay, led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 yard freestyle. His time was 51.58 seconds. Joining them on the relay were
Sage Trautz (Lansdale, PA) and
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL).
Individually, Trautz placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:54.45) and third in the 200 yard individual medley (2:17.25). Roe was second in that event (2:16.67), and he also took second in the 100 freestyle (53.87).
Nolan Lovegrove (Darien, CT) finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.99), while
Gabriel Menz (Vineland, NJ) captured second place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.13).
Edwin Moriarty (Long Beach, NY) had a second-place showing in the 500 yard freestyle (5:23.01) to go along with a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle (54.66).
Michael Grimerstein (Pittsburgh, PA), meanwhile, grabbed third place in three different events—the 200 freestyle (1:59.11), 500 freestyle (5:31.60) and 100 butterfly (1:00.14).
Zoe Marchetti (Key Largo, FL) and
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) were the top performers for the Maritime women. Marchetti won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.07 and took third in the 200 freestyle (2:16.60). Barriteau, meanwhile, posted a time of 2:40.90 in the 200 individual medley, which was good for third place.
They also joined with
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) and
Kate Kolsch (Smithtown, NY) to place second in the 200 freestyle relay. Maritime finished second in both women's relays, as
Samantha Hart (Brooklyn, NY),
Marilyn Peterson (Whitney Point, NY), Cirelli and Kolsch registered a 2:24.83 clocking in the 200 yard medley relay.
After opening the season with three dual meets, the Privateers will take part in their first invitational of the 2021-22 campaign on Saturday. Maritime heads to Kings Point for the USMMA Memorial Invitational, which gets underway at 11 a.m.
