THROGGS NECK, NY – On Saturday night, the Maritime College women's soccer team played its first home Skyline Conference game of the season. The Privateers (3-4-0, 0-4-0 Skyline), however, ended up falling to Mount St. Mary (4-3-2, 3-0-1 Skyline) by a 6-0 count at Reinhart Field.
Maritime hung tight with the Knights for the first 45 minutes. Nikki Carter scored in the third minute, but that was the only goal of the first half. Mount St. Mary then added five tallies in the second half. Julia DeSantis and Raina Quinones each found the back of the net twice, while Marilena Mangiaracina made it 6-0 in the 81
st minute.
The Privateers were held to just four shots and two shots on goal in the contest. Goalkeeper
Lizzie Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) (3-4-0), meanwhile, faced 14 shots and recorded one save.
DeSantis also had an assist to go with her two goals. Christina Kakavas (2-1-1) got the start in goal and played the first 67 minutes to earn the win. Caroline Brucato was credited with a pair of saves in 23 minutes of action.
Up next for the Privateers is a 7 p.m. matchup at Sarah Lawrence (4-6-0, 1-2-0 Skyline) on Tuesday.
