Women's Soccer Falls to Maine Maritime

The Maritime College women's soccer team dropped their first game of the 2019 season on Sunday morning as they fell to Maine Maritime 8-0. The loss came less than 24 hours after defeating Massachusetts Maritime in a thrilling 3-2 win.

The Privateers were the first team to land a shot on target as Anya Joseberger (Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie-Athens) registered a shot on goal in the third minute of play, but the Mariners were quick to respond and scored the first goal of the game in the fifth minute. Unfortunately, Maritime wasn't able to switch the momentum back into their favor and Maine Maritime was able to tally four more goals before halftime.

Maine's offense continued to put the pressure on the Privateers throughout the game and freshmen goalie Lizzie Pomaro (Farmingville, NY/Newfield) finished the contest with a season-high 14 saves.

The loss dropped Maritime's record to 2-1 overall. The Privateers will look to get back in the win column on Thursday night at 7 p.m. against CCNY on Reinhart Field.
