Eng Breaks Single Season Stolen Base Record in Home Loss to Manhattanville

Sophomore second baseman Matt Eng (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) made history for the Privateers in their home loss to Manhattanville on Tuesday night. Eng stole third base in the bottom of the third, marking his 26th steal of the season, a new program record.

The Privateers ultimately fell short in the non-conference contest, as the powerful Valiants offense earned a 16-0 win.

Eng, Antonio Diaz (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), Adam Mosca (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), and Robert Martin (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) all recorded hits for Maritime in the contest. On the mound, Blaise Delise (Bellerose, NY/High School for Construction) and Matthew Paghidas (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) both threw scoreless innings. The Privateers threw eight combined pitchers in the game to keep arms fresh for upcoming conference games and they combined for 11 strikeouts against Manhattanville.

Maritime currently sits at 16-12 overall and 7-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Privateers face a crucial test on Saturday when they travel to USMMA, who sits at 10-2 in conference action. They will then follow it up with a home doubleheader against Yeshiva University on Sunday beginning at noon.
