OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Maritime College swimming teams continue their 2019-20 Skyline Conference campaign with a pair of wins at Old Westbury on Tuesday night. The men's team remained undefeated at 4-0 on the season, with a 125-85 victory, while the women's squad evened their record at 2-2, with a 100-75 win.
Anna Curran (Shelton, Conn./Shelton),
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep),
Bridget Stack (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and Sabrina Zapson got the Privateers off to a strong start with a time of 2:30.46 in 200-yard medley relay. Curran also picked up another first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard freestyle,
Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY/St. Ferry) and Neely finished in first and third place, respectively.
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and
Hannah Mesones (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) kept the strong performance going with the top-two finishes in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 27.64 and 31.36, respectively. Brow added another first-place finish as she won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.33, and Stack earned an additional top-finish to her evening as she placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:13.40.The women's team capped off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind the team of Lavery, Mesones, Olivia Grabber, and Brow, as they recorded a time of 2:04.01.
On the men's side, the team of
Caelan Troy (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park),
Ian Folan (Bethel, Conn./Notre Dame),
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township), and
Tommy Murray (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic) opened up the conference meet with a time of 1:49.51 in the 200-yard medley relay as they secured first place.
Daniel Walsh (Naugatuck, CT/Sacred Heart),
Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY/Sayville), and
Malachi Melli (Bridgewater, NJ/Somerset County VoTech) took first, second, and third place in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:56.43, 2:01.78, and 2:03.78.
Brenner Hinds (Bay Head, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) and
Seth Champlin (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) earned first and second place in the 50-yard freestyle, while Caelan,
Matt Sesack (Sayville, NY/Sayville), and
Matt Hart (Bayonne, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) took the top-three finishes in the 200-yard IM.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Roe placed first at 57.69, and he was followed by
Gabriel Menz (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), who finished with a time of 58.90. Brenner, Hart, and
Dylan Flaxman (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) continue the impressive night for the Privateers by taking first, second, and third place in the 100-yard freestyle.
Brendan Raffay (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley) came in first in the 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:04.03, and Melli was right behind him, at 1:04.39. Edwin Moriarty picked up a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, while Sesack secured a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The team of Murray, Hinds, Walsh, and Roe then concluded the day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.30.
Maritime will return to the Riesenberg Aquatic Center on Friday, November 15, when they host Skyline opponents, St. Joseph's (LI) and Sarah Lawrence College. The tri-meet is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.
