Cross Country Competes at Mount Saint Mary Invite and Paul Short Run

The Maritime College cross country teams split up this past weekend as the women's team traveled to Mount Saint Mary, while the men's team went to Lehigh for the Paul Short Run. The women's team put up a strong performance as they finished 10th out of 23 teams, while the men's team competed in the open division and put up some solid times in a field of 604 runners.

Greyson Sladic (Lindenhurst, NY) was the first Privateer runner to cross the finish line at the Paul Short Run as he posted a time of 29:53. Max Unti (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) was next with a time of 31:54.1, while Derek Nielsen (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) came in just 14 seconds behind him. Closing out Maritime's runners were Jack O'Brien (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) and Matthew Vandenburgh with tims of 36:28.1 and 36:31.7.

The women's team beat out four other Skyline Conference opponents at the Mount Saint Mary Invite as they posted a score of 277. Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) was the first to cross the finish as she placed 20th overall with a time of 26:45.1 in the 6k race. Rachel Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) was close behind in 28th place at 27:21.1. Both freshmen have already picked up Rookie of the Week nods in their freshmen campaign.

Next to finish the race was senior Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent) who placed 42nd with a time of 28:17.5. Following Champlin was Charlotte Anich (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) who posted a time of 33:28.5. The closest finish of the day went to Katherine Schillat (Whitestone, NY/Saint Francis Preparatory School), who beat out a Mount Saint Vincent runner by just .2 seconds with a time of 34:08.3. Close behind Schillat was Celine Prenatt (Annapolis, Md./South River) at 34:12.7. Rounding out the Maritime runners was Ashley Hallaian (Tampa, FL/Thomas Jefferson ) at 38:54.2.

The Privateers will continue to tune up for the Skyline Conference championships as they head to St. Joseph's Long Island next weekend.
