Women's Soccer Drops Tough Matchup to Farmingdale St.

THROGGS NECK, NY - The Maritime College women's soccer team got to play one extra game on Reinhart Field in the 2019 season as they hosted the Farmingdale St., but were officially the away team. Unfortunately, the Privateers were unable to take advantage of the home field and ultimately fell by a score of 8-0.

The Privateers had a few chances early in the game to get a shot on net by playing through balls up the line to Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), but they couldn't come up with a shot on net as the score stayed knotted at 0-0.

In the 8th minute, the Rams had a break-away that led to a one-on-one with goalkeeper Lizzie Pomaro (Farmingville, NY/Newfield), however, the freshman made a fantastic play coming out of the net and scooped up the ball before Farmingdale could register it's first shot on target. Just two minutes later, Pomaro continued to make incredible plays on fast break opportunities for the Rams and registered back-to-back saves in the 10th minute of action.

Maritime's defense held strong for the majority of the first half, but the Rams were able to strike first in the 21st minute and they never looked back as they led the rest of the game. Offensively, Maritime had a few chances to make something happen in the opening half, but ultimately couldn't place a shot on goal and entered halftime trailing 2-0.

The second half continued to be controlled by Farmingdale St. and the Privateers could never break through and close the gap. Maritime eventually lost by a score of 8-0 and fell to 5-11 on the season. Pomaro finished the game with 12 saves.

The Privateers will play their final game of the 2019 season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. against St. Joseph's Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
