THROGGS NECK, NY - The Maritime College women's soccer team picked up its first Skyline Conference win of the season on Friday afternoon as they defeated Yeshiva University 11-0. Junior forward
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) had a record-setting performance as she set the new mark for goals in a single game with seven. Additionally, freshman goalkeeper
Lizzie Pomaro (Farmingville, NY/Newfield) recorded her 100th save of the season.
Wright got the offense rolling early as she netted a goal in just the third minute of play. Less than two minutes later, senior forward
Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) scored the first of three goals on the day as she made it a 2-0 advantage. Later in the half, Wright scored three straight times to solidify the Privateers lead at 5-0, 21 minutes into the game. Woods closed out the strong first half with another goal as Maritime took a 6-0 advantage into the locker room.
The second half saw more consistent offense from Wright and the Privateers as she scored three more times to make seven goals for the game. Maritime went on to win the Skyline matchup 11-0. In addition to three goals from Woods,
Anya Josberger (Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie-Athens) also tallied a goal in the win.
In goal, Pomaro entered the game with 99 saves on the season and she picked up a first half save to make it 100 for the season, and her career.
The win improved the Privateers to 5-10 on the season. Maritime will face Farmingdale St. on Monday, Oct. 28 at Reinhart Field at 7:00 p.m.
