NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Maritime College women's volleyball team finished up Skyline Conference play in 2019 with a sweep of Yeshiva University on Thursday evening, 25-11, 25-7, 25-4. The Privateers offense was dominant, as they finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .511.
Maritime started off the opening frame with an 8-3 run, which included three kills from junior outside hitter,
Abby Steele (Crossville, Tenn./Stone Memorial). Two service aces from sophomore
Meghan Eagleton (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham)Â got the offense back on track as they won 15 of the next 21 points to take the first set, 25-11.
Early in the second set, with the Privateers trailing 3-2, an ace by
Celyna Custodio (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) began an impressive 22-4 run, powered by kills from four different players. The strong offensive play led to an easy 25-7 win, as Maritime took a 2-0 lead.
In the third frame, sophomore
Rylee Malone (Southington, Conn./University High School of Science & Engineering) served seven aces as Maritime rode her serving to a convincing 25-4 win to complete the sweep.
Steele totaled eight kills on the match, while Custodio added seven kills and two digs.
Erika Kirchner (Meadowmere Park, N.Y./Lawrence) dished out 17 assists, while the Privateers as a team recorded 19 service aces.
Maritime finishes up the regular season with a non-conference tri-match at New Jersey City University on Saturday, October 26, where they will take on FDU-Florham and the hosts, NJCU. First serve is scehduled for 11:00 AM.
