PURCHASE, NY - The Maritime College women's soccer team couldn't complete a big second half comeback against Purchase College on Saturday afternoon and they ultimately fell 5-2.
The Privateers got off to a slow start against the Panthers as they found themselves trailing 3-0 just 22 minutes into the action. However, they were able to settle down and find some rhythm on offense to close the half. Jilliana Melford and
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) both recorded shots on goal before the half ended.
Unfortunately, Purchase stole the momentum back to start the second half as they tacked on two more goals to their lead. The Privateers weren't going away yet though as they answered the Panthers last goal just one minute later.
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) took the ball and made a long run down field before finally beating the goalie to score Maritime's first goal. Five minutes later, Maritime cut the lead to just three goals as Wright found Brianna Etienne for the second goal of the game in the 57th minute.Â
Mackenzie Fabiani registered 13 saves in net for the Privateers, while Wright led the offense with 3 shots.
The Privateers weren't able to find the back of the net again and fell to Purchase. The loss dropped Maritime to 4-9 on the season and they will return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they host Old Westbury.
