MAHWAH, N.J. – Maritime women's lacrosse ran out of steam falling 18-11 to Ramapo on the road in non-conference play at the Ramapo Athletic Center on Thursday evening.
 
The Maritime attack was led by juniors 
Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) and 
Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park). Deleva recorded a team-high seven points, scoring six goals on 13 shots and handing out one assist while Pfundstein tallied five points, netting four goals on 13 shots along with one assist. Freshman 
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) had four points on the night, scoring one goal while recording a team-high three assists.
 
Wright had a game-high nine draw controls while Pfundstein added five draw controls of her own and Deleva picked up one draw win on the game also. Wright lead the Privateers with five caused turnovers while Deleva caused two turnovers. Senior 
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) and junior 
Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) both caused one turnover a piece.
 
Wright led Maritime in the ground ball game with five, while sophomore 
Elizabeth Millicker (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) added four. Deleva and Yee each had two ground balls a piece. In the net, sophomore 
Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made 10 saves on the night.
 
Maritime got on the board first with Deleva scoring just 62 seconds into the game. Ramapo evened the score at one with a goal at the 26:41 mark but Deleva and the Privateers responded quickly with another goal less than a minute later to go up 2-1.
 
Ramapo scored the next seven goals but Deleva was able to stop the bleeding with back to back goals to cut the deficit down to four. Ramapo scored one more goal prior to the end of the half as Maritime trailed 9-4 heading into the break.
After Ramapo scored the first goal of the second half, Wright answered with her only goal of the game followed by two goals from Pfundstein making the score 10-7 at the 23:15 mark. After another Ramapo goal, Pfundstein came right back to score at the 17:45 mark cutting the deficit to three again.
 
Ramapo increased the lead to nine with just under eight minutes to go in the game. Maritime scored three more times, two from Deleva and one more from Pfundstein, but it was not enough to complete the comeback as Maritime would lose 18-11.
 
Maritime (2-4) will stay on the road for their next game when they resume Skyline Conference action at Mount St. Mary in Newburgh, N.Y. beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at Kaplan Field.
 
Ramapo (3-3) heads on the road for a non-conference matchup with Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon set for a 12 p.m. start.
