Privateers Weekly Preview: Oct. 10-13

Maritime College athletics has a full week of home events starting on Wednesday, Oct. 10, which culminates in the homecoming football game against Dean College on Sat. at 2 p.m. Scroll down to check out a quick preview for each team's home events!

18207WOMEN'S SOCCER:
Wed. Oct. 10 vs. Farmingdale St. 5 p.m. Reinhart Field
The women's soccer team is coming off its first Skyline Conference win of the season, but takes on a tough test in perennial power house Farmingdale St. The Privateers defeated Yeshiva University on Sunday morning by a score of 2-0. Freshman forward Brianna Etienne (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) continued to make an impact in her rookie campaign by tallying her team-leading fifth goal of the season. MacKenzie Fabiani (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) also scored Maritime in the conference win. The Rams will be a difficult task for the Privateers as they have won 10 of the last 11 Skyline titles. Senior goalkeeper Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough), the current program leader in saves, will be busy in net, but will look to continue being one of the best around at goal and keep the game close.

18208MEN'S SOCCER:

Wed. Oct. 10 vs. Mount Saint Mary 7:30 p.m. Reinhart Field
Friday Oct. 12 vs. Old Westbury 7 p.m. Reinhart Field **SENIOR NIGHT

The men's soccer team has been on an offensive tear this season as they have tallied 50 goals so far this season, the third most in the NCAA. The Privateers defense has also been outstanding this season, only allowing 15 goals on 58 shots on goal. Maritime is currently second in the conference at 4-1 overall, but they have the opportunity to overtake first place Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday night. The Knights are the reigning champions, but the explosive Privateers offense will look to take them out and move into the top spot in the conference. Maritime will then only have one day off before facing another tough test in Old Westbury for senior night on Friday at 7 p.m. The Panthers are currently 1-0-4 in Skyline play and boast one of the best defenses, only allowing two goals in five conference games. It will be a classic matchup of high-powered offense against a strong defense, but Maritime will look to take home the win for its senior night.

18209WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL:

Thurs. Oct. 11 vs. St. Joseph's Brooklyn 6 p.m. Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium
The women's volleyball team faces a crucial Skyline Conference test at home on Thursday against St. Joseph's Brooklyn. The Privateers are currently 1-1 overall in the conference, and if they hope to make their fourth playoff run in the last five years, they will need a big performance against the Bears. Maritime has been without its top offensive weapon, Meredith Hayes (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy), ever since the Maritime Classic in mid-September, but the young roster has been getting better every day with the experience they are gaining. In their Skyline win against Purchase College last Wednesday, freshman Celyna Custodio (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) and sophomore Abigail Steele picked up 10 kills a piece in one of their best offensive outings of the season. The Privateers will hope to continue that offensive efficiency against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Thursday at 6 pm. in Riesenberg Hall.

18210FOOTBALL:

Sat. Oct. 13 vs. Dean College 2 p.m. Reinhart Field **HOMECOMING
The football team is back on track after a dominant 55-14 win over Alfred State this past weekend. The victory ended a two-game skid and moved the Privateers to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play this season. Senior wide receiver Brandonn Drumgole (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) was electric and picked up four total touchdowns on the day: one 40-yard pass, one 3-yard run, and two receiving touchdowns of 16 and 21 yards. Drumgole earned ECFC Offensive Player of the Week honors and is now the program leader for receiving touchdowns. Last season, Maritime won a tightly contested contest against the Bulldogs as they won 17-14. This year, Dean will be forced to keep up with the high-powered Privateer offense, who currently average 36.8 points per game. The Bulldogs are 2-4 overall, but hold the same conference record as Maritime with a win against the Pioneers and a loss to Husson. Reinhart Field will be packed for the homecoming game and the Privateers will look to keep the energy up and defend their home field in the crucial ECFC matchup.
