Women's Soccer Suffers Tough Loss on Senior Day

The Maritime College women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Purchase College on senior day Saturday afternoon. The Privateers honored senior Hannah Leese (Alconbury, England/Boiling Springs (Pa.)) and Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) in a short pre-game ceremony.

The Panthers came out firing in the first half, but Havens was playing great in goal and rejected multiple shots early in the first half. The all-time program saves leader was also crucial coming out of the net on corner kicks to limit the number of chances Purchase had.

With the wind blasting in their faces, the Privateers struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half. However, the defense was on top of its game and was able to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.

The second half saw even play on both sides of the ball with Maritime seeing more chances at getting on the board. Unfortunately, the wind was limiting both teams control of the ball and all signs were pointing towards overtime. With time running out, Purchase College made a final run at the net and was able to cross the ball in front of the net and put it away just as time expired in the game.

Havens tallied 11 saves in the loss and the Privateers earned three corner kicks and three shots during the second half. Maritime finishes up the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. against St. Joseph's College Long Island.
