Win Streak Comes to an End for Men's Soccer after 3-2 Double Overtime Loss to Mount Saint Vincent

The Maritime College men's soccer team had its seven-game win streak come to an end as they fell on the road to Mount Saint Vincent 3-2 in double overtime. The loss dropped the Privateers to second place in the Skyline Conference at 7-2 overall, but they only trail Mount Saint Mary by one point and still have a chance at winning the regular season title.

The game got off to a rough start for Maritime as the Dolphins got on the board in the seventh minute of the opening frame. However, the high-powered Privateers offense starting fighting back right away and recorded the next eight shots as well as a corner kick. Eventually, the constant pressure paid off as Anthony Sblendorio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) found the back of the net off an assist from Sean O'Neill (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) in the 20th minute.

Despite the exciting first twenty minutes of the game, both sides buckled down on defense and kept it knotted at 1-1 going into halftime.

The Privateers offense came out aggressive to start the second half and once again, the constant barrage of shots paid off as Parker Gallt (Las Vegas, Nev./Plainfield South (Ill.)) scored his eighth goal of the season off an assist from Jerome Eastwood (Houston, Texas/Stratford). Maritime took the 2-1 lead with 33 minutes remaining in the game.

The Privateers continued to control the pace of the game, but the Dolphins converted one of their few chances and tied up the game in the 80th minute.

With the game heading towards a 2-2 tie, Mount Saint Vincent was able to escape with the win in the 109th minute. Maritime out shot the Dolphins 39-14 and held a slight advantage in corner kicks at 4-3.

The heartbreaking loss dropped the Privateers to 14-4 overall and have just one regular season game remaining against Farmingdale St. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
