Havens Tallies 14 Saves Against Farmingdale State

On Wednesday evening, the Maritime Women's Soccer team dropped a home conference game to the Farmingdale State Rams by a score of 6-0. The Rams who were the 2017 Skyline Conference champions and picked number one in the Skyline Conference 2018 Preseason Coaches Poll, improve to 11-3-1 on the season and stay undefeated in conference matchups. The Privateers  fall to 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in conference games.

Despite facing one of the best scoring teams in the Skyline Conference over the past two seasons, the Privateers put up a strong challenge on both the defensive end and at goalie. On a total of 38 shots from Farmingdale State, the Privateers held the Rams to only 20 shots on goal. The effort on defense also resulted in holding the Rams offensive attack to three corner kicks.

At goal, Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) faced the challenge  with another stellar performance to add to her already noteworthy career. Entering today's game, Havens has tallied 80 saves on the 2018 season which is good enough to make her second among Skyline Conference goalies. Havens added to that total with 14 saves against the Rams. Havens 14 saves on the evening left her with a save percentage of 70 in the contest.

On the offense, the Privateers were led by Kayla Kelly (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Brianna Etienne (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). Against the Rams, Kelly added one shot on goal. The junior continues to be a reliable player on the offensive end for Maritime this season. In the 18th minute, Etienne hit a cross on the inside box. The Rams barely held on to defend the goal which would have been a Privateers goal. The freshman is serving up a solid rookie campaign which includes a start in every game for the Privateers as well as five goals scored.

The Privateers will look to bounce back in their next game, this Saturday at Old Westbury. The Skyline Conference matchup will be the sixth for the Privateers this season.
