THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime basketball team fell at home to the Yeshiva Maccabees on Thursday evening by the score of 91-83 inside the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.

The Privateers were led by sophomore
Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), who tallied 27 points on 8-of-11 shooting including five from three-point range. Senior
Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) added 19 points and fell one rebounds shy of a double-double with a team-best nine rebounds.

Senior
John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had 15 points, while sophomore
Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) connected on 13 points as he had six field goals on the night. Freshman
Brennan Whelan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) had four points, while senior
Tim McQuail (Middle Village, N.Y./Cathedral Prep) added five points off the bench. Liccese led the Privateers with eight assists while Walker and Whelan each had four helpers on the game.

MacDonald put the Privateers on the board first, but Yeshiva responded with a layup before Liccese knocked down a three-pointer to give Maritime a three-point edge. Yeshiva tied the game as the lead exchanged hands eight times before the Maccabees opened up an 18-point lead at 44-26 with 3:57 to go in the half.

Maritime chipped away late in the half with McGovern scoring seven unanswered, followed by three straight from MacDonald and a jumper by Walker to pull the Privateers back within nine at 47-38 with 39 ticks left on the clock. Yeshiva went into the locker room leading by eight as McGovern knocked down three from the line to trim the deficit to 49-41.

In the second half MacDonald got the scoring started with a jumper off a quick dish from Liccese, the Privateers fell behind by double-figures once again but it was McGovern to drain a three-pointer to make it 65-56. McGovern continued to lead the way with key shots including a three-pointer with 6:37 to go before converting the and-one free throw to tie the game at 73.

Yeshiva scored the next four but it was Liccese's turn to answer with a three-ball to keep the deficit at one. The Maccabees got the lead up to 10 again before Maritime closed out the game on a 5-3 run to keep the lead under 10 as Yeshiva picked up the win by a 91-83 score.

Maritime (8-10, 5-9 Skyline) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, when the team visits Mount St. Vincent for a league matchup slated to begin at 3 p.m. from the Peter J. Sharp Center in Riverdale.

Yeshiva (7-9, 5-6 Skyline) heads out to Long Island on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. start at the Danzi Athletic Center, when the Maccabees take on the St. Joseph's (LI) Golden Eagles.
