THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime women's soccer team played host to the Lehman Lightning on Wednesday evening, and played a full 110 minutes on Reinhart Field with the game ending in a scoreless draw.
Maritime had nine shots on the day including seven on target. The team was led by freshmen
Caitlin Etienne (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and
Melissa Winberry (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), who each had three shots on goal. Fellow freshman
MacKenzie Fabiani (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) also registered one shot on goal, while both senior
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) and sophomore
Leigh Kouril (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) both had off-target shots.
The Privateers played a strong defensive game as junior goalkeeper
Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) made five saves on the day. Havens along with Kouril and fellow defenders
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip),
Ashley Giorgio (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and
Kayla Kelly (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) held Lehman to just five shots on goal through the match.
Lehman held a slim edge in corner kicks at a 4-2 margin, while the Lightning held the overall lead in shots at a 12-9 differential.
Maritime (0-1-1) looks to get in the win column next Wednesday as the team opens up Skyline Conference play against the Yeshiva Maccabees at 7:30 p.m. on Reinhart Field.
