THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime women's soccer team recorded a program record on Wednesday evening with 50 shots, as the Privateers coasted to a 9-0 non-conference victory over the York Cardinals on Reinhart Field.
The Privateers were led by five different players that recorded goals on the night, highlighted by freshman
Caitlin Etienne (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) having a breakout game with the first four goals of her career. In addition to the four from Etienne, the Privateers also got a pair of goals from freshman
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), and single goals from sophomore
Leigh Kouril (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), and freshmen

Maritime took the early lead in the sixth minute of play as Etienne scored the first goal on the night off a pass from the left wing by Fabiani. The York goalkeeper bobbled the shot and the ball trickled over the line to give Maritime the 1-0 lead.
In the 21st minute, Etienne took a lead pass from DellaSperanza and sent a long-range shot over the goalkeeper's head to increase the Privateer lead to two. Maritime tacked on one more goal in the half as Etienne was able to score on a scramble in the box off of Fabiani's initial corner kick.
After the break the Privateers tallied six more goals beginning with the first of the night for Wright, who took Della Speranza's corner kick and buried the shot into the goal to increase the Privateer lead to four. Gula scored an unassisted goal on a breakaway just after to make it a 5-0 advantage in favor of the Privateers.
Etienne scored the sixth goal of the night for Maritime off a pass from Gula in the 53rd minute. Three minutes later, Fabiani broke through on the scoresheet with her third goal of the year off a solid through-ball by Gula.
The Privateers scored twice more in the waning minutes as Wright recorded her second of the night on a curling shot that was placed into the upper left corner of the goal to move Maritime ahead by eight. Avitto dribbled the ball and crossed a pass towards the near post that was redirected by Gula to Kouril at the right wing, the sophomore scored her first of the year to cap off Maritime's offensive output and send the Privateer faithful home with a win.
Final stats saw Maritime outshoot the Cardinals by a 50-0 margin, with a 25-0 margin in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 14-0 in favor of the Privateers, while the York netminder needed to make 16 saves on the night.
