THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer Team hosted league-leading Mount St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon, and fell to the Dolphins by the score of 4-0 on Reinhart Field.
Maritime got 14 saves from sophomore goalkeeper
Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) on the afternoon.
The Privateer defensive unit put together a valiant effort through the first 80 minutes of play, holding their guests to just two goals in that time period. The defense was once again anchored by juniors
Olivia Mihaljevich (Leona Valley, Calif./Quartz Hill) and
Roseleen Frawley (Bronx, N.Y./Preston) in addition to freshmen
Ashley Del Missier (Forest Hills, N.Y./Florida Air Academy (Fla.)) and
Elizabeth Millicker (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North).
Maritime clogged up passing lanes and blocked shots in the early going of the matchup, as the Dolphins were held scoreless through the first 24 minutes. In the 25th minute, Mount St. Vincent got on the board with a shot that was just beyond the outstretched arms of Havens. Several minutes later Mount St. Vincent was on the board again with a cross into the box that was tapped into the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Privateer defense and goalkeeper stood their ground holding the Dolphins off the board through the remainder of the period.
The Mount St. Vincent offense continued to be frustrated by Maritime through the early stages of the second half as the Dolphins were unable to add to its lead until the 81st minute. At 3-0, Mount St. Vincent added one more goal in the 88th minute of play to come away with the 4-0 win.
Maritime (3-7-0, 1-2-0 Skyline) will play non-conference John Jay on Wednesday afternoon from Randall's Island Field 91 at 4 p.m.
Mount St. Vincent (5-3-0, 3-0-0 Skyline) will take on league-favorite Farmingdale this Wednesday at 4 p.m., when the Dolphins welcome in the Rams to the Athletic Field at Marillac in Riverdale, N.Y.
