THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer team competed in their Skyline Conference home opener on Saturday afternoon, and fell to the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles by the score of 4-0 on Reinhart Field.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) made 19 saves for the Privateers in the effort as she tied her single-season high, which was set just a week ago against Mass. Maritime on Saturday.
 
The Golden Eagles scored in the opening three minutes, but the Privateer defense stood their ground and held St. Joseph's off the board through the remainder of the first half. Defensively, junior Olivia Mihaljevich (Leona Valley, Calif./Quartz Hill) and Alison Gilbert (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst) had strong games clogging up the middle of the field and making it difficult for the Golden Eagles to complete passes.
 
In the second half, the Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty kick in the 55th minute and converted to take a 2-0 lead. Minutes later it was a three-goal lead on some quick passing by the Golden Eagles in the 59th minute. St. Joseph's was awarded another penalty kick in the 85th minute and also converted, just off the fingertips of Havens to cap off the scoring at 4-0.
 
Maritime (3-5, 1-1 Skyline) will look to bounce back on Tuesday afternoon when the Privateers visit Manhattanville for a 5 p.m. start on GoValiants.com Field in Purchase, N.Y.
 
St. Joseph's (1-4, 1-0 Skyline) will play host to Yeshiva on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. from the Danzi Athletic Complex in Suffolk County.
