Women’s Soccer Denied by New Jersey City in Non-Conference Match

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer team returned home to Reinhart Field on Wednesday afternoon, and fell to the New Jersey City Gothic Knights by the score of 6-0.

During the first half, the match was delayed for over an hour due to lightning. After the delay the teams returned to the pitch and closed out the first half, followed by an abbreviated halftime. The teams agreed to play just 25 minutes of the second half, meeting the NCAA requirements of at least 70 minutes played.

In goal, sophomore Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) made eight saves on the afternoon.

New Jersey City got on the board quickly with a goal in the third minutes of play. The Gothic Knights scored again in the 17th and 20th minutes before the weather delay began at 5:35 p.m. and lasted for 62 minutes.

After the delay, the Gothic Knights scored twice more to close out the first half and took a 5-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Following the intermission, New Jersey City scored once more in the 62nd minute of play to cap off the scoring. The final horn sounded at the 70th minute as the Gothic Knights came away with the victory.

Maritime (3-4-0, 1-0-0 Skyline) will be back in action on Saturday morning at 11 a.m., when the Privateers play host to the St. Joseph's (LI) Golden Eagles on Reinhart Field as Skyline Conference play continues.

New Jersey City (3-1-1) will open up New Jersey Athletic Conference play next Wednesday, as the team will travel to Southern New Jersey for a matchup with the Rowan Profs at 4 p.m.
