Women's Soccer Opens Skyline Conference Slate with Convincing WIn over Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer opened Skyline Conference play on Tuesday afternoon with a victory, knocking off the Yeshiva Maccabees by the score of 6-0 on Randall's Island – Field 54.

Junior Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) and freshman Leigh Kouril (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) led the Privateers, as the pair recorded two goals apiece on the match. Maritime also got goals from junior Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold), and freshman Alison Gilbert (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst).

Rookie Kayla Kelly (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) collected her second assist of the year, while fellow freshman Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and Annamarie Ranni (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) each recorded their first career points with assists during the contest. Woods also chipped in with a pair of assists, while Yee added an assist of her own.

In goal, Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) made seven saves for her second shutout of the season and fourth of her career as she continues to climb the all-time shutout list. A steady defensive effort in front of Havens, including juniors Olivia Mihaljevich (Leona Valley, Calif./Quartz Hill), and Roseleen Frawley (Bronx, N.Y./Preston), along with freshmen Ojaira Suero (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly) and Ashley Del Missier (Forest Hills, N.Y./Florida Air Academy (Fla.)) helped the Maritime netminder lock down the shutout.

Woods got the flurry of goals started after taking a pass from Kelly to open the scoring in the 14th minute. Gilbert collected her first career goal off an assist from Hernandez as the Privateers took their 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

After the intermission, Yee scored in the 53rd minute off of a feed from Woods to increase the Privateer lead to three. Kouril then got in on the scoring action with back-to-back goals off of assists from Woods and Yee, respectively.

Woods capped off the scoring, as she took a feed from Ranni in the 75th minute to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Privateers.

Maritime outshot their hosts by a 20-7 margin, with 14 of their shots on target. Corner kicks were even at four apiece, while the Privateers were called offsides on three occasions, while the Maccabees were offsides just once.

Maritime (3-3, 1-0 Skyline) will get right back to work tomorrow afternoon, when the team returns home to Reinhart Field for a 5 p.m. match against New Jersey City.

Yeshiva (0-5, 0-2 Skyline) will look to rebound on Thursday afternoon, when the Maccabees return to Randall's Island to play host to the St. Joseph's (Bklyn) Bears at 5 p.m.
