Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Skyline Matchup to Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Lacrosse team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup to the Stockton Ospreys by the score of 19-5 on the Stockton Turf Field.
 
Sophomore Nick Pellegrino (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) led Maritime with a pair of goals, while classmates Ian Danahy (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South), Paul Lafrancesca (Nesconset, N.Y./Sachem North) and Julius Diaz (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) all scored. Sophomore T.J. Ragusa (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) recorded three assists to lead the Privateers, while junior Kevin Izzo (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) chipped in with one assist.
 
In goal, sophomore Brendan McNally (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) stopped a season-high 18 shots as he played the initial 50:38 in goal. Freshman Justin Weigold (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) stopped one shot in just under five minutes, while sophomore Ian Ballou (Williamsburg, Va./Bruton) finished off the game and also made one save.
 
Lafrancesca also led the team with two caused turnovers, while senior Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) had a game-high four ground balls. Senior Jordan Rose (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) also had three ground balls, while five other Privateers all recorded two ground balls apiece.
 
Diaz got the scoring started with the first goal of the game, Stockton responded, but Danahy scored with less than a minute in the first quarter to give the Privateers a 2-1 lead after the first period.
 
Stockton scored the next three goals, but Pellegrino trimmed the deficit back down to one with his 23rd of the year. The Ospreys rattled off four unanswered goals to close out the half and take an 8-3 lead into the halftime break.
 
Lafrancesca got the scoring started in the third quarter, but Stockton again responded with another crooked number as the Ospreys went on to score the next 10 goals to take an 18-4 advantage as the game crossed into the fourth stanza.
 
Pellegrino netted a man-up tally with 2:26 left in the game to cap off the scoring for the Privateers. Stockton scored once more as the Ospreys sealed their win at 19-5.
 
Maritime (5-5, 0-2 Skyline) will look for their first league win of the year on Wednesday afternoon, when the team plays host to the Mount St. Mary Knights for a 5 p.m. start on Reinhart Field.
 
Stockton (10-3, 2-1 Skyline) will be on the road for their next game as the Ospreys will head to Long Island for a 4 p.m. start against Farmingdale on Wednesday afternoon.
